South of Jalan Hang Lekir, tucked away on Jalan Tun HS Lee, is the extravagantly decorated Sri Mahamariamman Temple. It is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. Founded in 1873, it is situated at the edge of Chinatown in Jalan Bandar (formerly High Street).
The most remarkable feature of the temple is a structure which is similar to the shape of a human body with its head positioned towards the west and the feet pointing east. Take in the sights and sounds from peddlers selling strings of jasmine garlands to aromatic incense filling the air.
