The Istana Budaya is the Malaysian National theater, and also called the palace of culture. It was initially build in 1995 with construction cost of RM210 million with an area of 5.44 hectare with floor area of 21,000 per square meter, and finished in 1999. 

Istana Budaya is Malaysia’s main venue for all types of theatre including musical theatre, operetta, classical concerts and opera from local and international performances. The first theatre in Asia with state-of-the-art stage equipment, it is rated as one of the world’s top 10 most sophisticated theatres, on par with the Royal Albert Hall in London. 

Istana Budaya is situated nearby Tasik Titiwangsa along Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. The cabinet has approved the abolishment of National Theatre (Panggung Negara) to Istana Budaya officially in 2000.
