Otak otak is a popular snack in Malaysia, it is commonly served as an accompaniment to a meal of nasi lemak in breakfast. The dish nowadays is not found in the morning but in the evening at hawkers and street venders.

Otak otak is literally translates as “brains” in Malay languages. It is a fish cake made of ground fish meat mixed with spices and wrapped with banana leaves then grilled over an open charcoal fire or in the oven.
