Pulut Kuning is Malaysia yellow glutinous rice. This dish is one of the most popular in Malaysia. To the Malays, it is one of the traditional foods that are often prepared, practiced and associated with symbolism, custom and ritual for special occasions.  

The yellow color of the Pulut is turmeric, the rice soak with turmeric for over a night. There are two reasons for this, the first is to speed up the steam process next day. The second is to make the rice absorbed the turmeric, which is giving the dish its characteristic yellow color.  

The Pulut Kuning is served during ceremonial events or special occasions. The occasion such as weddings at which its color yellow symbolizes the couple’s status as the ‘king and queen’ for the day! It is also served at celebrations concerning newborns.
