Rendang is a popular dish in Malaysia. We can describe it as a rich dish of meat and most commonly beef, but you can find it as chicken and lamp. The dish is stewed in coconut milk with spices such as ginger, chilli, galangal (blue ginger), lemongrass, garlic, shallot, kaffir lime leaves and turmeric. 

Rendang cooked in slow flame and braised in a coconut milk seasoned with spice mixture as mentioned above, until the liquids evaporate and the meat turns dark brown and tender, becoming caramelized and infused with rich flavors. 

The dish is best eaten with rice or ketupat or Lemang. It is often sold at hawker stalls specially during Hari Raya as it is considered a celebratory meal, served during special occasions.
