Tosai is a very popular dish in Malaysia and specially in breakfast. The dish has been introduced by Muslim Indian community as Malaysian called them Mamak.
Tosai is basically a thin pancake made of rice and lentil batter that has been left to ferment overnight. Urad dal (black lentils) are usually added to give it extra texture and taste.
The food is extra nice, light, fresh and usually vegetarian. There two types of tosai, first is crispy and called paper tosai. Second is soft tosai. The Indian food in Malaysia is often incredibly cheap. You should be able to eat a good vegetarian meal for RM 3 or 4.
Tosai can be found in any Mamak restaurant around Kuala Lumpur city. There are two restaurants you can try it there, pelita restaurant and NZ restaurant.
